Em 20 de janeiro comemora-se o Dia Nacional do Farmacêutico em homenagem à fundação da Associação Brasileira dos Farmacêuticos, que aconteceu em 1916. Nesta semana, entretanto, a data mostra-se ainda mais especial, uma vez que foram iniciadas as vacinações contra a COVID-19 por todo o país.
O farmacêutico é um profissional que trabalha nos bastidores da saúde. O início das vacinações contra a COVID-19 no Brasil é uma grande oportunidade de mostrar a importância dessa profissão. Por ser um trabalho intelectual, o farmacêutico participa desde as pesquisas e desenvolvimento das vacinas e medicações, até a logística de distribuição de manipulação desses produtos para a população.
Michelle Nunes, presidente do Departamento de Farmácia da AMIB, ressalta que os farmacêuticos tiveram atuações essenciais em todas as frentes, mas, mais ainda, nas áreas de pesquisa e desenvolvimento das vacinas e nas tentativas de medicamentos, que ainda não obtiveram sucesso. “Os farmacêuticos pesquisadores tiveram um papel muito relevante, não só no desenvolvimento desses produtos, mas também no controle e garantia de qualidade, na logística de distribuição e cuidado durante o uso, identificando possíveis reações adversas e monitorando efeitos colaterais”.
Nas Unidades de Terapia Intensiva -UTI, a atuação dos farmacêuticos foi mais notória do que nunca. “Vemos muitos relatos de pacientes obesos, que tinham dificuldade de resposta aos tratamentos farmacológicos e os farmacêuticos foram cruciais para que os ajustes das doses tivessem melhor desempenho; pacientes com disfunções orgânicas, renal e hepática, que necessitam de ajustes dos medicamentos, o papel dos farmacêuticos foi importantíssimo para que não houvesse uma intoxicação medicamentosa, mas sem receber uma dose abaixo do necessário. Foi muito importante pela grande quantidade de pacientes em suporte respiratório, na ventilação mecânica, que precisam de uma atenção especial em relação à sedação e analgesia e precisam de adaptações a cada fase da ventilação”, relata Michelle.
Por ter uma atuação que muitas vezes não fica muito clara para a sociedade, Michelle deseja que a profissão passe a ser mais valorizada. “Nós esperamos, depois de ter passado por tudo isso, por esse momento histórico, que a nossa profissão seja melhor reconhecida, que a sociedade tenha compreendido a importância do farmacêutico nas equipes profissionais, especialmente nas UTI, mas também dos farmacêuticos hospitalares, que foram verdadeiros guerreiros nesse momento de pandemia por lidar com a escassez de recursos, se equilibrar com orçamento reduzido, principalmente no SUS, onde houve cortes, e conseguir administrar esses recursos para viabilizar, tanto os EPI para a equipe, quanto os medicamentos para os pacientes”, finaliza.
